Destination Overview

Discover Udawalawe National Park

Centering on the colossal Udawalawe reservoir with misty mountain backdrops reminiscent of East African savannas, Udawalawe National Park is globally renowned as the ultimate destination for observing wild Asian elephants in their natural habitat.

Home to an estimated resident population of over 600 to 700 elephants, sightings are virtually guaranteed on every single safari drive. Herds of mothers, playful young calves, and impressive solitary tuskers graze peacefully among open grasslands, waterhole marshes, and scrub forests.

Just outside the park gates is the Elephant Transit Home (ETH), an internationally acclaimed conservation sanctuary supported by the Born Free Foundation, where orphaned baby elephants are rehabilitated and fed milk before being released back into the wild.
